first draft feedback
The most notable feedback we received from the first draft of our trailer is;
- Re-film opening scene as there are noise disturbances
- Include blurred effects in some scenes
- Add more shots in order to make it more fast paced and full
- Make title move as opposed to still
Planning of Characters
Zachary Lane

We would like to show the character of Zac in modern casual clothing as it will increase the believability of the character being in his mid/late teens. It is a stereotype that teen males dress casually but are groomed with their hair and beard area, they are likely to wear tighter tracksuit like outfits but with great care taken in their appearance as a whole - hats are a trend seen in teenage boys in this age.
Stacey

Once again for the character of Stacey it is crucial to show her as a modern teenager for believability. To show this she will be dressed in blue jeans (maybe ripped) with a plain top and jacket - this style is seen in teen girls in the modern day. We will however change her into more casual (less impressive) clothing when she is shown to go mad as this will further empathise her downward emotional spiral.
Detective Matthews

In order to make the character look like a believable detective we will dress her in smarter work wear which suits that specific profession. Female suit wear will be used which is age appropriate as the actress playing the character will be in the 40-50s bracket. It is counter typical to show a woman in a powerful position such as a detective in a thriller movie so we would like to empathise her power with the costume.
Mrs Lane

We would like to show Mrs Lane in very casual nightwear/dressing gown. This is to connote to the audience that she is under a tremendous amount of sadness and stress due to her sons death which is why she hasn't changed, and never changes, out of her comfortable clothing.

Music choices

To choose the possible music that will go in the background of our trailer - which we will use to build intensity and mystery - we used the website 'beat suite' as it included many options of dramatic music that we could use in our trailer. When watching trailers the music was one of the main elements that built the dramatic and engaging feelings which kept eyes glued to the screen so we found it crucial to find the perfect music.
Possible options:

Chosen Music:

We plan on using "dark undertow" at the beginning of the trailer due to the fact it is a slow, hunting and suspenseful tune that will perfectly connote to the audience that this trailer would be for a movie in the thriller genre. It works perfectly when Zac's mother finds out about her son's demise as it connotes an element of confusion and shock.

The song "journey into darkness" is more suited for the middle section of our trailer due to it being loud, fast paced and dramatic due to the instruments included in the trailer. It connotes elements of heartbeats that symbolise the hugely powerful shots that are appearing on screen at the time.

We will end our trailer with the piece of music "im watching you" as it slows down the pace which is common in thriller trailers at the end. it is also haunting and suspenseful so will fit with the images of a mysterious figure pulling flower petals off a bunch of flowers Stacey was seen taking to Zac's grave in the middle of the trailer.
Notable Props

Evidence numbered tiles are a stereotypical prop seen in a huge amount of thriller movies. They are used at the scene of a potential crime and are attached to notable artefacts that the police may think could be suspicious. We decided to include them as they connote to the audience that there could be possible foul play in the death of Zac although it is ruled a suicide, so the audience will be enticed to see the film and discover the true story. 'Seven' is a notable film that includes this prop on a regular basis at the scene of each murder. We will use the prop in the trailer to signify blood from the victim and symbols that signify possible murder.
The flowers are used as a way to show that Stacey is thinking about her best friend after his death. Yellow flowers are seen to be a signal of loyalty or friendship - connoting that Stacey is trying to be loyal to her friend by taking on the detectives role and finding a potential killer. The bunch of flowers also connote death, signifying that the movie includes dark themes such as this. We will use the prop in the trailer as a symbol of friendship, however we plan to add a shot which shows a mystery hand picking at the flowers which will excite the audience as it could be a murderer.
The vodka bottle is used to show the downward spiral which has occurred to Stacey since her best friends death. The connotation of alcohol is loss of control, paranoia and sadness - suggesting to the audience that the main protagonist may not be a character that they will root for, thus enticing them to discover why she may be ruining her life. We will use the prop in the trailer as a shot that begins to signify Stacey's decent into madness. In the film 'the girl on the train' the main protagonist is seen to have a drinking problem so we decided that the character of Stacey and Mrs Lane should also have these similar issues
A murder investigation board is a motif that is commonly seen in a crime or thriller movie. The connotation of the board is mystery and confusion - elements that would draw questions in the audiences mind and will want them to discover more about the storyline. We will use the prop in the trailer in shots that randomly quickly appear to build intensity and mystery.
The mug will be used to symbolise Zac's mothers shock and sadness when she finds out about her sons death, when it drops to the ground in slow-mo it will begin the fast paced section of the trailer.
Changes 2 - Bloodshed name change
New title and new title logo:

Other options:

We decided to change the name, logo and font of our film as we believed it was verging too much on the horror or comical genre. We wanted to make the movie seem more professional, marketable and serious and the bloodshed name and logo we believe did not suit this aim. Thriller and horror are similar but are essentially completely different in tone and story, and the bloodshed title suited the horror genre more in our opinion. The title NO MORE feels to give an element of mystery, something needed for the thriller genre and our story line.
